ABSTRACT:

The World Bank estimates that waste generation will increase from 2.01 billion tonnes in 2016 to 3.40 billion tonnes in 2050. By 2050, global consumption of materials like biomass, fossil fuels, and metals is expected to double, with annual waste projected to increase by 70%. As a consequence, the concepts of a circular economy, waste management, and industrial symbiosis are receiving significant attention. The objective is to clarify industrial symbiosis within the context of the circular economy and waste management, as well as the challenges associated with its implementation.

Keywords:

industrial symbiosis, circular economy, waste management.
