ABSTRACT:
Entrepreneurship in post-conflict societies such as Kosovo and Metohija represents not only an economic, but also a psychosocial category significant for the stabilization and long-term development of the community. However, current political and economic events, the overall unstable geopolitical situation, as well as increasingly frequent pressures and repressive measures by the provisional Pristina institutions towards the Serbian population, further complicate and hinder the business environment in this area. Accordingly, the subject of this research is the examination of various psychological, individual, and institutional factors that influence the development of entrepreneurship in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija, with particular attention to the personal experiences of entrepreneurs regarding exposure to war traumas, psychological resilience, mental health, as well as entrepreneurial motives and perceived barriers or obstacles. The main aim of the paper is to provide an answer to the question of whether and how war, conflict, and post-conflict experiences shape the structure of motivation for entering entrepreneurship and the perception of business barriers. The results of the empirical research conducted on a sample of 105 entrepreneurs and owners of family farms from Kosovo and Metohija show that entrepreneurs in these areas do not lack material resources, but rather the strengthening of intangible capacities and the provision of a stable and secure institutional environment that enables the development of entrepreneurial
initiatives and reduces psychological stress, which often constitutes an integral part of their daily lives.
